Coastal New Build
The design & planning of an additional new build dwelling on a secluded coastal site in Allhallows
The client's brief was to explore the feasibility of gaining planning permission for a new dwelling next to the existing property optimising the land. The site is located in the picturesque setting of Allhallows with views across the Thames surrounded by countryside.
Given the location of the site, there was an opportunity to propose a structure that would sit alongside the existing house extending the street scene, with an emphasis on designing a property that was sympathetic to the local vernacular.
The concept stage of the project was driven by views; considering those looking onto the site, & those looking outwards. The steepness of the land was utilised by lowering the building into the ground, therefore, when entering the town the house appeared lower and less imposing.
This, among other techniques, granted us planning permission, allowing others in the future to enjoy the beautiful landscape.
From the Designer, ‘From an early stage, we were aware of the client's connection to the site granted they had lived in the house from childhood, leading us to seek a design that was sympathetic to its surroundings portraying a sense of lasting.’
