Lake House

Proposal to expand rural family home positioned on the banks of Leybourne Lakes

We were approached to draw up plans to extend an existing four-bedroom home with a view to creating a master suite with panoramic views over the lakes as well as the addition of a home office.

The house is part of a recent development where any alteration is required to adhere to a particular design style which did restrict the design opportunities in regards to the external appearance, however, internally we were able to implement more notable changes that reconfigured and enhanced the flow of the house.

With a row of established planting in between the house and the water's edge, the views of the Lakes improve as you move up the building. With this, the decision to convert the loft into a Master Suite, featuring a walk-in dressing room and spacious en-suite, was a simple one. The space was enhanced further by forming a connection to the surrounding countryside by framing views over the lakes and introducing Juliet balconies that greeted you as you entered the room.

From the Designer, ‘Although the design was inspired by the beautiful setting, there was a very practical objective at the heart of this project; creating more space. With people working from home more often, the need for a permanent working space which can be shut away when the day is done is becoming more important. In this instance, the garage was a perfect opportunity to achieve this, whilst carefully arranging the space so it could be transformed into an annexe for when guests come to stay.'
