Proposal for a new-build family home


We were challenged with designing an additional property on a residential site creating a new four-bedroom family home in the heart of Maidstone. 


‘Backland Developments’ can be difficult to navigate through the planning process, highlighting the importance that every site is unique, with special attention given to access, parking, and overlooking.


With these considerations in mind, the feasibility process was structured around optimising the site & arranging a dwelling that worked efficiently whilst keeping the overall mass to a minimum. The importance of designing a property that was in keeping with its surroundings was paramount whilst utilising the existing access.

Working from macro to micro, we looked at the surrounding context with a view to creating a property that related to its surroundings in proportion & appearance, whilst working inwards to designing floor plans that were efficient & met the clients brief.’
