Scope
Extension
A sensitive modernisation and extension in Wateringbury, shaped by landscape, water, and material character.
Set within a generous plot in Wateringbury, with a natural stream running through the garden, this project has been approached as a carefully phased transformation.
The first phase focused on modernising a dated property, replacing tired materials with a restrained palette including charred larch cladding, new windows, upgraded boundaries, and a comprehensive landscape strategy. Internally, the house was refreshed to create a calm, contemporary family home, now completed and occupied.
The second phase introduces a single-storey home office extension, designed as a contemporary addition that sits lightly within the landscape. Stepping down with the site, the extension integrates sustainable drainage measures that direct rainwater naturally toward the stream, reinforcing the relationship between building and setting.
Together, the two phases demonstrate a considered balance between architectural intervention, landscape, and long-term stewardship of the site.
